Hello! My name is Jahzara Taylor, and I am a first-year at Georgia College & State University. I am a biology major with a pre-medicine concentration, and I have hopes to eventually use this degree to become an OB/GYN. I am also minoring in Spanish, and even though these areas of study seem vastly different, they both hold special significance to me in terms of my career and my personal interests. I have known that science and medicine are my passion since I could walk and talk, the age-old reason being that I “want to help others,” but language-learning has also been instilled in me early on. My mom speaks Spanish and French, and teaches French to high school students. She has been an inspiration to me to pursue multilingualism, and I gravitated to Spanish first. This has led me to take Spanish all four years of high school including AP Spanish my senior year, and with Spanish as my minor, I want to continue learning and broadening my knowledge of the language to the point of fluency. Not only that, but there is no doubt that fluency in Spanish is a great skill to have in the field I am planning to work in because it will give me the opportunity to connect with a greater array of patients. Among many other advantages, the duality that being bilingual will add to my skill set really excites me when it comes to language-learning, and I hope to achieve the level of proficiency that I desire.
